Google Analytics Receives Key Update: Snap Ads Cost Data Import Now Available

Table of contents

Google Analytics has introduced an important update — marketers can now directly import ad cost data from Snap Ads. This enables automatic tracking of key metrics such as Ads cost, Ads clicks, and Ads impressions, making it much easier to analyze the performance of paid traffic from Snap.

In addition to real-time data, the integration supports importing up to 24 months of historical metrics. However, it’s important to avoid duplication: if data was previously imported manually, old datasets should be deleted before configuring the new integration.

Requirements to Get Started

To use this integration, you need:

  • Analyst role in Snap Ads;
  • Editor role in Google Analytics;
  • Correctly configured UTM parameters in ad URLs.

The utm_source and utm_medium parameters are mandatory, while utm_campaign and utm_id are recommended for more detailed analytics. The values of these parameters must exactly match your Google Analytics settings.

Step-by-Step Guide: Importing Snap Ads into Google Analytics

Create a New Data Source

  • In Google Analytics Admin, go to Data Import → Create data source.
  • Name the source, select Cost data, and choose Snap as the provider.

Connect Your Account

  • Click Connect and sign in to your Snap Ads account.

Configure the Data

  • Select the appropriate Snap Business and ad account.
  • Specify Campaign source and Campaign medium values that match your UTM parameters.
  • Map the fields automatically.

Review and Complete Import

  • Double-check your configuration, adjust the source name or import schedule if needed.
  • Click Finish → Done.

The data will be uploaded within ~30 minutes and appear in reports within up to 24 hours.

How to Verify Parameters in Snap Ads

To confirm proper setup:

  1. Log in to your Snap Ads account.
  2. Open each ad and check that the target URL includes utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign, and utm_id.

Why This Matters

Integrating Snap Ads with Google Analytics allows marketers to:

  • Get a complete picture of advertising effectiveness;
  • Automate data imports and reduce manual work;
  • Ensure accuracy and consistency across reports.

For marketers, this means faster access to reliable analytics, enabling smarter budget allocation and strategic decisions.
