Table of contents

In March 2025, Google rolled out a series of major AI updates, reinforcing its long-term strategy of deeply integrating artificial intelligence into its products, services, and even environmental efforts. The highlight was the launch of Gemini 2.5 Pro — the most powerful version of Google’s flagship model, now enhanced with personalization and deeper user understanding.

What’s New in Gemini?

Google announced that Gemini 2.5 Pro is now available to all Gemini app users. This experimental model shows exceptional performance, especially in complex queries, programming, mathematics, and multimodal interactions.

The Gemini app has been significantly upgraded with:

  • personalized responses based on search history (with user permission),
  • Canvas for organizing thoughts visually,
  • Audio Overviews support,
  • free access to Deep Research and Gems features.

These updates make AI more relevant, time-saving, and adaptive to user needs — opening new communication formats powered by Gemini.

AI Overviews: Smarter Search

AI Overviews in Google Search have now reached over one billion users. In the U.S., Gemini 2.0 is now powering more complex searches. The model delivers improved results in coding, science, and visual interpretation.

Google also introduced an experimental AI Mode — allowing users to receive AI-generated answers, ask follow-up questions, and view helpful web content links.

Pixel Drop: AI Comes to Smartphones

March’s Pixel Drop introduced AI upgrades to Google’s mobile devices:

  • Gemini Live now supports switching between 45+ languages in multilingual conversations,
  • improved scam call detection,
  • more accurate step tracking,
  • a new Auto-Bedtime Mode.

These updates show how Google continues to bring smart features into users’ everyday mobile experiences.

AI in Shopping and E-commerce

Google is investing further into commercial AI applications. New features in Google Shopping allow users to describe clothing items they’re looking for and see AI-generated visuals, along with shoppable look-alikes.

This is a game-changer for brands in the fashion and lifestyle space, offering new opportunities in visual marketing.

Robotics and Developer Tools

Google introduced Gemini Robotics — a vision-language-action model for direct robot control — and Gemini Robotics-ER, which adds enhanced spatial awareness for more precise execution.

For developers, Google released Gemma 3, lightweight open-source models designed to run efficiently on smartphones, laptops, and GPU/TPU-powered devices.

Google’s Environmental AI Efforts

Google also made significant announcements around AI for environmental protection. In March, it launched the first FireSat satellite, which can detect wildfires as small as 5×5 meters using AI. This is part of a future constellation of 50+ satellites.

In addition, three new nature-focused initiatives were unveiled:

  • an AI accelerator program for startups working in biodiversity and sustainability,
  • a $3 million Google.org grant for Brazilian nonprofits applying AI in agriculture and conservation,
  • the launch of SpeciesNet, an open-source AI model for identifying animal species from camera trap photos.

What This Means for Marketers

Google’s March updates clearly show that AI is becoming central to how people discover, shop, and interact online. From personalized search to visual e-commerce and smarter mobile experiences, the direction is clear.

For marketers, it’s time to explore integration with Google’s evolving AI features, adapt communication strategies for AI-enhanced environments, and prepare for the next wave of transformation in search, commerce, and customer engagement.
