Meta Platforms has announced the launch of new artificial intelligence tools for the Facebook Marketplace platform. The key updates include automated replies to buyers, AI-generated listings, expanded seller profiles, and the ability to organize product shipping.

The company aims to simplify and speed up the selling process. According to Meta, sellers on Marketplace frequently receive a large number of repetitive messages from potential buyers, which complicates communication and slows down sales.

The new AI tools are designed to partially automate these interactions and improve the efficiency of managing listings.

Automated replies to buyers with AI

One of the key updates is a system for automated replies to buyer messages powered by Meta AI.

Sellers can now allow artificial intelligence to automatically generate responses to buyer questions. The system analyzes the information already included in the listing and produces a reply without requiring manual input.

The AI uses data such as:

  • product description
  • availability
  • price
  • pickup or handover location

When creating a listing, sellers can enable automated responses, review the suggested text, and edit it before activating the feature.

This solution addresses one of the most common Marketplace issues — frequent messages such as “Is this item available?” even when the listing clearly states that the item is still available.

Interestingly, one seller had previously created a custom AI tool to automatically respond to these kinds of messages, highlighting how widespread this problem is among Marketplace users.

AI helps create listings faster

Another major feature is automatic listing generation.

Now sellers only need to upload a photo of the product. After that, the AI system automatically:

  • creates a draft listing
  • fills in key product details
  • suggests an estimated price

The recommended price is generated by analyzing similar items being sold in the same region.

As a result, users no longer need to spend significant time writing and formatting listings, since most of the work is handled by the AI system.

Meta expects this feature to make selling on Marketplace easier for a wider range of users, especially those who only sell items occasionally.

Expanded seller profiles to increase trust

To strengthen trust between buyers and sellers, the platform is also introducing short seller profile summaries.

Buyers will now be able to see key information about a seller directly on the listing page, including:

  • how long the user has been registered on Facebook
  • the number of friends in the profile
  • the seller’s sales history on Marketplace
  • the types of items the seller typically sells
  • the seller’s rating

This overview helps buyers quickly assess the credibility of a seller before making a purchase.

Trust is a critical factor for online marketplaces, which is why Meta is placing a strong emphasis on transparency in seller profiles.

New product delivery options

Another important update is expanded support for shipping.

Sellers can now:

  • offer shipping directly within their listings
  • generate prepaid shipping labels
  • track all orders through a single management dashboard

This allows sellers to reach a broader audience, since transactions are no longer limited to local in-person meetups.

In practice, Marketplace is gradually evolving from a local trading platform into a more complete e-commerce environment.

Meta continues to integrate AI into Marketplace

The new features complement other AI-powered tools already available on the platform.

These include:

  • AI prompts that help buyers ask better questions to sellers
  • analytics tools for vehicle listings

Together, these updates highlight Meta’s broader strategy of automating online commerce and improving the overall user experience with artificial intelligence.

How AI is changing online selling

The integration of AI into Marketplace reflects a broader trend in the technology industry — the use of artificial intelligence to automate e-commerce processes.

Automated responses, AI-generated listings, and expanded seller profiles can significantly simplify the buying and selling process. At the same time, these tools reduce routine tasks for sellers and help build trust between users.

In the future, similar AI-driven features may become standard across online marketplaces, where artificial intelligence takes on part of the communication, analysis, and organization involved in sales.
