Google has introduced new documentation regarding what it also calls host carousels in Google search.

Google has added new documentation for developers of structured data search (beta). The new documentation can be found here and is available within the “Early Adopters Program.” These structured data are intended for a new diverse carousel result, which is in beta, “which is a list-based diverse result that people can horizontally scroll to see more entities from the given site (also known as a host carousel),” Google wrote.

Where does this work?

This new beta carousel is generally intended for hotels, restaurants, vacation rentals, products, and events. Each tile in the carousel can contain information from your site about price, rating, and images of entities on the page.

What does it look like?

Here’s an illustration of what it looks like in Google search: Recommendations. General Google recommendations are applied here, but in addition, with this specific carousel, Google has added the following additional recommendations:

Can generic types be used?

However, to use the recommended properties, you need to use the appropriate types. For example, to use the amenity Features, use the Lodging Business type. Additional or extra fields are allowed, but they may not appear in the diverse result. You can learn more about technical implementations and recommendations, including code examples and troubleshooting guidance, here.

Why is this important?

If you have a local business, product, or event site that can use this beta carousel, you may want to try it out. Diverse results often help increase the visibility of your site in search and increase the number of clicks to your site.
