The platform hopes that the changes will allow creators to gain deeper insights into their audience, enabling them to more effectively optimize their content.

YouTube has unveiled three new updates for content creators aimed at providing them with a deeper understanding of their audience and enhancing the user experience. These updates include:

  1. Real-time reaction analytics.
  2. Distribution of views from new and returning viewers.
  3. The ability to livestream on YouTube in HDR.

Live Reaction Analytics

YouTube introduces new real-time analytics for live streams, allowing creators to track audience reactions as they happen. These data reveal the quantity and types of reactions received, such as emojis like heart eyes or clapping hands.

To access this information, simply visit your content and navigate to the Insights tab. Note that currently, this feature is only available on the web version and mobile devices of Studio.

Impressions Breakdown

YouTube is rolling out a new filter that allows you to view the number of impressions segmented by new and returning viewers. This feature aims to help you gain deeper insights into your audience, enabling you to tailor your content strategy to attract both new and returning viewers if desired. You can access this feature in YouTube Studio Analytics in the expanded mode.

HDR Live Streaming

Now you can stream live on YouTube in HDR. Conor Kavana, YouTube’s head of monetization policy, explained the benefits of this new feature:

“With HDR, you get crisper whites, richer blacks, and more vibrant colors. HDR also allows capturing much more detail in your stream, as microscopically subtle color shades are preserved without smudging, creating incredibly detailed, hyper-realistic images for your audience.”

With the latest version of OBS 30.1, you can now stream in HDR on YouTube via RTMP. This allows you to use existing RTMP workflows and provide your viewers with the highest quality available on YouTube. Additionally, you can stream live in HDR for games if the game you’re playing supports HDR. To do this, make sure your monitor supports HDR and that your camera, if you have one, also supports HDR for PQ or HLG.

Please note that currently, you can only use this feature on Sony ZV-1, Sony ZV-E10, and Sony A7S III cameras.

Why is this important?

Analytics for live stream reactions and comparing views from new and returning viewers allow for a deeper understanding of your audience, enabling adjustments to your content strategy accordingly. Additionally, live-streaming in HDR provides higher-quality video for your audience, potentially increasing engagement and enhancing user experience.
