Threads continues its aggressive growth trajectory, officially reaching 400 million monthly active users. In response to this expanding audience, Meta has introduced significant updates to the Threads Marketing API, designed to enhance campaign performance and optimize content management workflows.

These updates provide advertisers with new customer acquisition channels and robust tools for brand reputation management.

Global Rollout of App Ads: Scaling Mobile Reach

Advertisers can now scale mobile application campaigns directly within the Threads feed. With the latest Marketing API update, support for App Ads is now available globally.

Key Update Features:

  • Supported Campaign Objectives: Advertisers can utilize the APP_INSTALLS objective, along with app event optimization for LINK_CLICKS or CONVERSIONS.
  • Creative Asset Unification: The platform allows the use of existing visual assets—images, videos, and carousels. This eliminates the need for bespoke creative production specifically for Threads, significantly saving design resources.
  • Placement Automation: Integration into the Threads news feed allows offers to blend organically into the user experience, driving higher engagement rates.

Reply Moderation Tooling: Advanced Communication Control

Alongside expanded advertising capabilities, Meta is prioritizing Brand Safety. New moderation features within the Threads Marketing API allow advertisers to maintain full control over user interactions under sponsored posts.

Functional Capabilities:

  1. Monitoring: View all top-level replies to specific advertisements.
  2. Active Management: The ability to hide incorrect, spammy, or irrelevant replies.
  3. Feedback Loop: Reply to comments directly via the API, enabling the integration of Threads into existing CRM systems and customer support helpdesks.

Technical Note on Permissions:

To utilize moderation tools, apps must have the following permissions for the ad account:

  • ads_read — Required to view replies.
  • ads_management — Required to hide or respond to replies.

The expansion of the Threads Marketing API signals the platform’s transition from an experimental space to a high-performance marketing tool.

  • Test Threads as a Placement: Run A/B tests for existing app promotion campaigns to evaluate $CPI$ (Cost Per Install) relative to Instagram and Facebook.
