Brave Search introduces an AI answer system

The Answer with AI feature from Brave utilizes large language models to generate responses directly within search results.

Brave Search has introduced a new AI-powered answer system called Answer with AI. It generates responses synthesized from multiple sources for any query.

What is the Answer with AI?

Answer with AI leverages artificial intelligence to create responses directly within search results. This new feature appears above regular search results in Brave Search.

The format varies depending on the query type. Below Brave, there’s a section called “Context,” where Brave references the sources used to generate the answer. Based on a small number of searches conducted, Brave typically obtains most of its answers from high-ranking pages.

This builds upon Brave’s AI Summarizer feature introduced last year.

How does Answer with AI work?

When a user enters a query, Brave utilizes large language models (LLMs), primarily Mixtral 8x7B and Mistral 7B, search result data, and RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) to generate responses almost instantly.

When will users see the AI-generated answer?

For informational queries similar to questions, Answer with AI will provide answers by default. For other query types (navigational, commercial, transactional), the Answer with AI feature will be optional—you’ll click the “Answer with AI” button.

Brave Search: What’s the scope?

Brave Search indexes 20 billion web pages, has over 1 billion location-based schemas, and serves:

• 27 million queries per day.
• 10 billion queries per year.

Availability of Answer with AI?

It’s available on all platforms (desktop and mobile) for all searches in English, French, German, Italian, and Spanish. Searches in any other language may return answers in English.
