Google is expanding cross-channel measurement by bringing app conversions into more reporting and attribution tools.
The update gives advertisers a broader view of how different channels and campaigns contribute to app installs, purchases, and other in-app actions.
App conversions are now supported across more Google Analytics cross-channel reporting features, including:
This makes it easier to analyze the full customer journey when users interact with a brand through multiple channels before completing an action in an app.
For example, a user may first discover a brand through a paid search ad, visit its website, return through another channel, and eventually make a purchase in the app. With app conversions included in broader cross-channel reporting, advertisers can get a clearer picture of how these touchpoints contribute to the final conversion.
Advertisers can also adjust attribution settings independently for app conversions.
This gives marketers more control over how app conversions are assigned to different channels and campaigns, which can be particularly useful for businesses that have both web and app customer journeys.
The broader reporting can help advertisers better understand:
Previously, web and app measurement could feel fragmented, making it more difficult to analyze the entire customer journey in one place.
Bringing app conversions into more cross-channel reports should make this analysis more consistent and easier to manage.
The update is not yet available for every Google Analytics property, so some advertisers may not see these capabilities immediately.
There is also a distinction between reporting and budgeting. Cross-channel budgeting currently supports web conversions only. App conversions can be analyzed through the expanded reporting features, but they are not yet included in cross-channel budgeting.
The update is another step toward bringing web and app measurement closer together.
For businesses with both websites and mobile apps, having a more unified view of conversions can make it easier to evaluate campaign performance and understand how different channels work together throughout the customer journey.
However, Google’s measurement ecosystem is not fully unified yet. App conversions are becoming more deeply integrated into cross-channel reporting, but some features — such as cross-channel budgeting — still focus on web conversions.
For advertisers, this means more visibility and greater control over app attribution, while the broader integration between web and app measurement continues to evolve.
