Google has announced the introduction of the Gemini 3 model into the search engine’s AI Mode. This marks the first time that a new Gemini model has been made available in search on the day of its official release. The Gemini 3 Pro is currently available to Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers in the US, who can select the “Thinking” model from the AI Mode drop-down list.
Robby Stein, VP and GM of Google Search, said on his X account:
“Gemini 3, our smartest model, is now available in Google Search – starting with AI Mode. This is the first time a new Gemini model has been available in search on the day of release.”
Google plans to expand access to Gemini 3 in AI Mode to all users in the US in the near future, with higher usage limits for Pro and Ultra subscribers.
Gemini 3 features advanced reasoning capabilities and deep multimodal understanding. In the context of search, the model is able to explain complex concepts, process complex queries, and support interactive visuals that are displayed directly in AI Mode responses.
According to Stein, the Gemini 3 integration redefines the concept of a “useful answer” in search:
“Gemini 3 makes Search smarter by rethinking what a useful answer looks like. With new generative interface capabilities, Gemini 3 in AI Mode can now dynamically generate a shared answer layout in real time.”
Google has announced the implementation of the Gemini 3 model in the Search AI Mode. This is the first instance in which a new Gemini model becomes available in Search on its official release date. Access to Gemini 3 Pro is currently available to Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers in the U.S., who can select the “Thinking” model from the AI Mode dropdown menu.
Robby Stein, Vice President and General Manager of Google Search, stated on his X account:
“Gemini 3, our most intelligent model, is landing in Google Search today – starting with AI Mode. This is the first time a new Gemini model is available in Search on release day.”
Google plans to expand access to Gemini 3 in AI Mode to all U.S. users soon, with higher usage limits for Pro and Ultra subscribers.
Gemini 3 features state-of-the-art reasoning and deep multimodal understanding. In the context of Search, the model is capable of explaining complex concepts, processing intricate queries, and supporting interactive visual elements displayed directly in AI Mode responses.
According to Stein, the integration of Gemini 3 redefines the concept of a “helpful response” in Search:
“Gemini 3 is making Search smarter by re-architecting what a helpful response looks like. With new generative UI capabilities, Gemini 3 in AI Mode can now dynamically create the overall response layout in real time.”
Instead of a simple text block, AI Mode can design a customized response layout that includes images, tables, and other structured elements to enhance clarity and usability.
In the coming weeks, Google plans to implement automatic model selection:
“Search will intelligently route complex queries in AI Mode and AI Overviews to our frontier model, while continuing to use faster models for simpler tasks.”
Gemini 3 improves the query fan-out technique.
As Stein explains, Search can now perform more related searches simultaneously and better interpret user intent. This means Google can find content that may have previously been missed:
“The model now performs more and much smarter searches, so Search can surface even more relevant web content for a specific query.”
Learn more about why Gemini won’t replace Google.
Gemini 3 in AI Mode introduces a generative UI that creates dynamic visual response layouts based on user queries. The model analyzes the query and generates a customized response using images, tables, and grids. If an interactive tool is needed, Gemini 3 can generate a small application in real time and embed it directly into the response.
Examples cited by Google include:
All responses are accompanied by links to high-quality web content, providing direct access to sources.
The implementation of Gemini 3 changes how content is discovered and used in AI Mode. With enhanced query fan-out, Google can access more pages per query, which may affect which sites are cited or referenced during complex searches.
Updated layouts and interactive elements also change how links are displayed on the screen. On-page tools, explainers, and visualizations can now compete directly with Google’s interface.
Therefore, it is important for content owners to monitor how their materials are displayed and cited in AI responses alongside traditional search rankings.
Gemini 3’s integration into AI Mode significantly changes the way content is presented in search, creating new opportunities and challenges for marketers. Updated algorithms and a generative interface mean that content can be displayed not only as text, but also as complex visual layouts with interactive elements, tables, and images. This requires marketers to pay closer attention to how content looks and feels in these formats, as well as which resources receive links and citations in AI responses.
With the enhanced query fan-out process, Google can now find more relevant pages for a given query, which affects the visibility and authority of content. Therefore, it is important for marketers to monitor how changes in content display affect rankings and user engagement, and adjust SEO and content marketing strategies as necessary. Interactive tools and visuals designed to respond to user requests can be an important factor in increasing brand awareness and authority in search results.
Overall, the implementation of Gemini 3 creates new opportunities for user engagement and increased content visibility, while requiring marketers to adapt strategies to new data display formats.
